Loris Karius joins Liverpool from German side Mainz for £4.7m

Liverpool football club of England have confirmed the signing of Loris Karius, a Germany Under-21 goalkeeper from Jurgen Klopp’s former club Mainz.

The 22-year-old completed a medical on Tuesday, May 24, and will officially begin a five-year contract on 1 July for £4.7m.

According to the no.1 shot stopper, Klopp convinced him to move to Anfield, assuring him he will never regret his action.

Karius kept nine clean sheets in 34 league games last season as Mainz finished sixth in the Bundesliga.

“I spoke to the manager and I had a good feeling afterwards because he told me what he wants to do with the club and with the players,”he added.

Meanwhile, rivals Liverpool and Manchester United have been handed heavy fines by UEFAfor illicit chants during their Europa League last-16 tie.

According to a report on BBC, both clubs were also punished after their fans were caught on camera throwing objects at each other and disturbing the crowd. While Manchester United were fined £44,342, Liverpool were fined £43,577.

Liverpool were also sanctioned for setting off fireworks and a late kick-off, while United were charged for stairways blocked at their stadium.

It could be recalled that fans were seen fighting in the stands, seats were thrown and flares were lit during the 1-1 second-leg draw at Old Trafford, during which five men were arrested.

Liverpool could also land into more trouble for several incidents during their Europa League final against Sevilla.
